A bizarre and uncomfortable scene unfolded at a Jets fan forum Monday in Florham Park when a season ticker holder asked rookie safety Jamal Adams for his reaction to the growing concern regarding CTE in the NFL.

“I can speak for a lot of the guys that play the game, I would die on the field,Authentic Charles Harris Jersey, we live and breathe (football) and this is what we’re so passionate about. Literally if I had a perfect place to die,Authentic Raekwon McMillan Jersey,” Adams said.

The 100-plus fans in attendance then began to applaud, with commissioner Roger Goodell sitting right next to Adams at the front of the auditorium inside the Jets facility.

“That’s not a lie,Womens Cordrea Tankersley Jersey, and just connecting as one and winning ball games,Womens Dalvin Cook Jersey,” Adams continued when the clapping died down. “There’s so much sacrifice that we go through as a team,

, there’s nothing like playing the game of football.”

Goodell spoke with local media after the conclusion of the fan forum and addressed Adams’ comments.

“What I think he was really making the point of is how much he loves the game and how passionate he is of the game, and it’s just something that means a great deal to him,” Goodell said. “He loves playing it, and I get the emotion of that.”

When asked if he was thrown off by the fans’ applause, which is, we love the game, Goodell said: “I think the fans understood the emotion of what he was saying, and I think they love the game, but I don’t think anyone took it as directly as that.”

Goodell is obviously familiar with NFL players’ mindsets when it comes to health. He referred to his attempts to change those mindsets as a “culture change.”

“Players now are doing a great job of raising their hand when they don’t feel right. Teammates are raising their hands, coaches,” Goodell said. “All of that is part of the culture change,

,Womens Raekwon McMillans Jersey, officials, to say it’s great to be a hard-nosed player,Authentic Cordrea Tankersley Jersey, but you play within the rules and you also play as safely as possible.”

cornerback Morris Claiborne,Authentic Dalvin Cook Jersey,Adams’ teammate in the Jets defensive backfield,Authentic Pat Elflein Jersey, told the News he would also be willing to lose his life in playing the game.

“I would die out there on that football field,” he said. “This is my life. This is what I do. I give it all. I would die out there.”

The fan who asked the initial question Monday specifically referenced a medical study released this month by Boston University.

In the study, researchers discovered CTE — chronic traumatic encephalopathy — in 110 of the 111 brains of former NFL players that were donated for research. CTE is a degenerative brain disease linked with repeated trauma to the head.

Ten-year veteran Matt Forte sat alongside Adams at the front of the auditorium and admitted he was spooked by the recent report. One of the brains examined in the BU study was that of Ken Stabler, the Hall of Fame former Raiders quarterback. Stabler was posthumously diagnose with CTE in February of 2016.

“It’s definitely concerning after seeing those statistics,” Forte said. “But also the game has changed a lot from the guys that they studied. The game is a lot safer than it used to be with rules changes but also helmet design.”

Forte said he switched helmets after coming to the Jets before the 2016 season on request of the team’s equipment staff. One of the Jets’ equipment managers showed Forte a diagram ranking prospective helmets by their protectiveness.

Forte had been wearing a helmet that was second from the bottom on the list.

“I was like,” Forte said to the crowd, I probably shouldn’t wear that helmet, to some awkward laughter.

” Forte added. “Not just trying to look cool,“It’s just about being smart, but playing with the helmet that fits the best and will protect you the most. So the technology has changed and the game has changed.”
